Oldroyd Family Life and Times of an Oldroyd

Kids all swimming at the rec center… Except Abbi. She doesn’t believe in getting wet. Sigh.

We had the annual Bob Oldroyd Christmas party at the clubhouse. I think everyone had a good time. We wish that Jen / Shel and families could have been there, but we all survived. I roasted a turkey for the occasion and it was excellent (if I do say so myself). We all had fun.

Cooling the watermelon and Sam’s club coke. Enjoying tinfoil dinners with the family. A very nice Sunday evening.

Kris and I got away for some r&r. It has been nice. Had a good run up to albion basin and back. Having a great and relaxing time.

The day started out early with Dave running the Deseret News 10K. Kris and Dave left the house at 5:00AM. The race was a fast race, but I was sucking wind pretty badly. All told it was my fastest 10K at 53:12:7 but it didn’t feel good. Also I’m wiped out now. Kind of weird…
In the afternoon I took the four youngest and took the leisurely hike up to Donut Falls. We had a great time and there wasn’t even too much whining except for whining about still being hungry.
Now Kris has the kids at the swimming pool and Tanner is at the second of his 2-a-day practices at West Jordan. He is walking really well now, but he really isn’t strong enough for football yet. He is working hard. I hope he can be ready for actual football.
Life is good. Back to work tomorrow.

Wish I was there. Looks like they had fun. I had work. Kennedy was pretending to be a mermaid. She isn’t crying because Tanner busied himself with digging a hole someplace else. Just kidding. Tanner can be nice to his siblings.

30 mile round trip on the bike and a quarter mile swim. The swim was just amazing. Nobody else in the water and the temperature was just perfect. I even saw some fish. I will certainly be going back. The biking was steep but I made it eventually.
Very enjoyable.

Today I ran my first official 10k race ever. It was part of the Lehi Roundup event. I don’t know why I was so nervous but I must have been because I hardly slept at all the night before. Kris and I left just before 6:00am to head for Lehi. We got situated in and kris lest to setup for pictures.
By the time the 7:00 race started I think my adrenaline was pretty well spent as it took about a mile into the race to get to a reasonable pace, feel, and cadence. The course was a little odd in how it ran through the neighborhoods and I guess they messed up on the overall distance. It was a bit longer than the 10k
I was tired but still hit my goal time. I was hoping to get in under 55 minutes. I made it in 53 minutes. I was able to kick it in at the last 100 yards or so to finish strong. It felt good. I took third place in my age division (at least there was 3 of us). They will have the official results soon and I’m interested in how my age group did speed-wise.
Cassidy had a singing performance that I missed 🙁 I saw the video afterwards and she really rocked it.
Papa Jim came in today as well. It has been nice and a good visit so far.
I’m pretty tired. Going to bed.
