Idaho Falls Baseball Trip Day One

Filed under: Uncategorized — dto @ 11:36 pm

Day One has been a success. Dad, Tanner, Parker, and I drove up to Idaho Falls. It took us just over three and a half hours to get here. We made three pit stops for potty breaks, food, and one orange juice explosion incident.

Parker has been VERY good. He has had a couple of little whining fits, but nothing major. For the most part he has been a very happy boy and has done well. I hope he sleeps well tonight. That will be the next step to a great trip.

The weather hasn’t totally cooperated, but it could have been worse. It was extremely windy, but at least it didn’t rain. It rained from the time we were in Brigham City – all the way through Pocatello. Once we hit Blackfoot Idaho the rain stopped and the wind kicked up. It blew and blew and blew all the way through both baseball games.

The first game was not so great, the team was still playing like they were in Jello. They committed many errors and couldn’t hardly hit to save their lives. They ended up losing – with the loss they pretty much lost the chance to play for the championship tomorrow. The wind played havoc with the outfielders and helped with several homeruns. Tanner struck out and walked, but he kept his head up and stayed really positive. The second game was 180 degrees different. They went out and pounded the other team. The final score was 21-5 and shouldn’t have even been that close. They finally got a bit of confidence and had fun. Hopefully they can carry this forward to tomorrow’s games. Although they are out of the championship, they still need to get back on their winning ways.

After the 6pm game we got to the hotel around 8:45pm. We checked in at the Hilton Garden Inn. It is a really nice hotel. I am enjoying the bed very much. I was worried that we had 4 people and two beds, but luckily there is a couch that makes into a bed. I get my own sleeping surface! I am so stoked.

Tanner and JP got to hang out for a while at the hot tub at the Shilo Inn. It is amazing how well they have bonded. They are great friends. It is almost spooky how much they like each other.

Anyway, things are going well – I hope it continues. I have great kids and I love them dearly. They all want to do what is right and be good. Sometimes the situations push them over the edge. Their edge just comes up more quickly than I as a parent would like to see. It is late and I need some rest. I’m crashing – in my own bed.
