Tanner makes the cut

Filed under: family — dto @ 4:22 am

Tanner has spent a lot of time over the past couple of weeks trying out for his Junior High basketball team. He has been working at home, at the gym, by himself, with me, and at school. We have all been nervous wrecks as he gas move through the tryout process. We are excited to say that he made it and is part of the varsity team.
Tanner is a great kid and I am glad that this worked out well for him. It’s something he really needed in his life. Now we get tons of early morning practices and a whirlwind season but we are all excited and proud of him.

Trick or Treat!

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:45 pm

Kids went out trick or treating. It wasn’t too cold, but we got rained on pretty well. We didn’t get in as much trick or treating as we had intended but enough that they can much for a few days on all the candy they can stand. At that point Kris takes the rest and chucks it out anyway.
I’m glad that I don’t have to work Halloween night any more. I like being with the family and doing some of the traditional things with them.

Kennecott Copper Mine

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:04 pm

Took Lexi, Kennedy, and Parker to the Kennecott Copper mine (part of the Rio Tinto family). I haven’t been out there in years. It is a pretty impressive place. The trucks are huge and the processes they go through are pretty amazing. I had a great time with the kids – they were a bit hyper but good. They are fun to hang out with.

Grandpa Macbeth’s Funeral

Filed under: family — dto @ 9:19 pm

Grandpa, we love you. Today was the funeral service. It was a wonderful service with humor, love, and tears. All of my uncles spoke and shared wonderful memories and doctrine with us. We used technology to skype Holly in from Switzerland. I was happy to help facilitate Holly being virtually present. I think a few people thought it was weird but it was nice being able to share the day with Holly. I hope that the audio / video quality was worth it for her. I know she wanted to be there and to participate, but it just wasn’t going to be possible. I hope that she felt involved enough. Holly is a wonderful sister and I feel sorry that she had to be so far away.
I want to replay the audio from the service. There was some great doctrine taught and I want to research it and understand it a bit better. I loved the story of Ezekiel and the dry bones. I had a double meaning to me because we used to always play that silly song at his house and then to hear it told as a story of the resurrection at his funeral was wonderful.
Anyway – enough rambling. My head hurts and I’m really tired. It has been a stressful and tiring day. I hope that Grandma is at peace and is comforted.

Lexi’s Birthday Bash

For Lexi’s Birthday we went to “The Incredible Pizza Factory” and pigged out at the buffet, played games, painted faces, and had fun for all. It was actually a pretty decent place. Everyone had a pretty good time. I enjoyed hanging out with the family and watching them be goofy (of which there was plenty).
The funniest thing was after our B-Day party, Kris had to drive up Millcreek Canyon to Jon and Mare’s cabin for a “Girls-only” sleepover with Kristine and Mare. Kris said that she had a good time, but due to any number of odd circumstances she didn’t get to sleep until after 1:00 AM so she i pretty wiped out tonight.

Flapping Bats

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:40 pm

Went with the kids to Lowe’s to do their craft of the month. They were able to both make a flapping bat. You would have thought it was christmas with all the excitement from Parker. Abbi had a surprisingly good time as well. Kiki and Lexi didn’t come with us since they had dance to go to.

Happy 11th Birthday Lexi! We had a great time with you out at the pizza place. The woman that painted your face did an excellent job. Here’s to a great year! You are growing up so fast!

Another Day of Sadness

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:18 pm

This year has not been a great year for my family. Tonight around 7:00 PM my grandfather Macbeth passed away peacefully in his sleep. Uncle Dennis called and asked me to inform the rest of the family. My uncles and their wives are over taking care of the immediate needs. I feel so sorry for my Grandmother. She has lost a daughter and a husband within the last three months. It has got to be extremely difficult for her.
We will certainly miss Grandpa Macbeth. He was such a model of humility and kindness. He was very soft spoken, but a man of action. His service and generosity knew no bounds. I only remember one time when he was angry and raised his voice. He was a hard blue collar worker that provided for his family and community. His service and compassion wont soon be forgotten by anyone that knew him. His funeral will be filled with people whose life he has touched and left better.
Grandpa, I love you and will miss you.
