Another Day of Sadness

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:18 pm

This year has not been a great year for my family. Tonight around 7:00 PM my grandfather Macbeth passed away peacefully in his sleep. Uncle Dennis called and asked me to inform the rest of the family. My uncles and their wives are over taking care of the immediate needs. I feel so sorry for my Grandmother. She has lost a daughter and a husband within the last three months. It has got to be extremely difficult for her.
We will certainly miss Grandpa Macbeth. He was such a model of humility and kindness. He was very soft spoken, but a man of action. His service and generosity knew no bounds. I only remember one time when he was angry and raised his voice. He was a hard blue collar worker that provided for his family and community. His service and compassion wont soon be forgotten by anyone that knew him. His funeral will be filled with people whose life he has touched and left better.
Grandpa, I love you and will miss you.

Here are all the pictures from Mom’s calendar for the year. I’ll transcribe and get it into a google calendar for everyone to share.

  • Had a really nice run this morning. It wont help my standings in the Nike+ but it felt good none the less. #

Followup on Flippy

Filed under: family — dto @ 8:54 pm

Well, Parker did well last night after the getting him the medicine. He slept well and didn’t have any more boils in the morning nor any more throughout the day. He had some phantom scratching (or just dry skin) tonight, but it didn’t get him out of doing his homework (he tried).
Regardless, he is doing better and is back to his normal flippy self.

Flippy at the kids-care IHC. Parker has an allergic reaction to something. Got some steroids from the doctor to help out. The doctor was seriously named Dr. Woody – a pleasantly plump Asian doctor.

Date Night With Kris

Filed under: family — dto @ 4:52 am

Kris and I were able to go out on Friday night. Tanner volunteered to babysit for us and off we went. Kris had a restaurant.com $25 gift certificate that she bought on-line for $3. We thought we were going to get a decent deal. Unfortunately when we got to the BBQ restaurant it looked like it had been closed down for a couple of months. You could barely make out the name on door if you squinted and looked just right.
With a hankerin’ for BBQ we drove over to a place called Q4U. We had never been there before and thought that we’d be a bit adventurous. As we were being seated by our stoned waitress we walked past a full on kalua pig. They had put oranges and cherry tomatos for its eyes and had it laying on a bed of lettuce. It was a bit of a shocker. We made it to our table in the back next to the emergency exit and got our menus. They had a menu item named “BBQ Shake” subtitled as “A cup-o-fun”. It was a 16 ounce cup with mashed potatoes at the bottom, followed by some pulled pork, topped with a generous helping of coleslaw. Yummmm. Welcome to Kearns!
Given the pig, the stoner, the sticky table (forgot to mention that), the emergency exit seats, and the cup-o-fun were enough to convince us that ordering would be unwise so we got up and politely left before ordering.
This is why we are hesitant to try new things, we don’t do so well. Usually it is me that makes the horrible decisions around foods and activities, but this time it was all on Kris. She is usually pretty spot on, but on this day she crashed and burned.
Leaving the BBQ far behind us we ended up at “Smash Burger” and it was pretty decent. After the burger we went over to the show “Eat, Pray, Love”. It was slow and we got bored, leaving before the movie was finished. We are so ADD.
Overall – Kris and I had a great time. I love her so much and was glad that we were able to get away for an evening. Life is good.
Namaste!
