Tanner had his first experience in changing the oil in the excursion himself. He found that there are easiery and harder ways to get the oil filter off the car and in this case ended up with oil all up and down his arm.
I don’t believe that his clothes will ever come clean at this point. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with him. I hope that he had fun too.
Changing the oil on the car is something that I fondly remember from my childhood as well. It is something that kids typically don’t do these days (nor do adults) since we can have it done with no mess or fuss for $30 down the street, but the time that I got to spend with Tanner was priceless and it taught him a little bit about how cars are put together as well.
I need to make more of these opportunities available for my kids – not just Tanner. These are the things that I remember most from my childhood and I would feel badly if I didn’t have the opportunity to pass them down to my children as well.
Hopefully when I MMS’d the picture to Dad that it brought a wry smile to his face.
