Grandeur Peak April 2010

The snow path to the peak

Holly and I met up at 7:00 am and started out from the road outside Church Fork. I think that the worst part of the hike was actually through the picnic ground to get to the trail. It was a bit chilly, but with a hat and some gloves we went on up.

The trail was great and very diverse. At times it was bone dry, other times it was soggy, and near the peak we were up to our knees in snow (if you post-holed).

We had a great hike and great conversation. We were surprised to see green grass, butterflies, and bumble bees. Spring is on the way.

Hiking through the snow was a bit of a challenge, but still fun. On the way down we just sat on our heels / butt and sled on down. We also found a great spot to make snow angels for future visitors.

Our round-trip time was just around 4 hours.

It was a great hike, but my ankles and knees are definitely feeling it now. I was pleasantly surprised at how well my ankle did. I wore the brace and high-top boots which helped.
